This season hasn't been kind to the Lakeland Chiefs, who are still winless after their fifth game. They took a serious blow against Mid Valley on Saturday, falling 56-25. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Lakeland of the 52-33 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Leading Mid Valley to victory were Elise Larson and Krista Cortazar. Larson scored nine points along with eight assists and two steals, while Cortazar scored ten points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Cortazar has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Parker Bennett was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
Lakeland bumped their record down to 0-5 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Mid Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Lakeland will head out on the road to face off against Riverside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mid Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Old Forge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
