Softball Recap: Hico Extends Winning Streak to Four

Hico had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Frost on Friday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Polar Bears. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Mikaelynn Miles made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Miles was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hayde Silva was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Gontarek, who scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Hico kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.8.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Hico, bringing their record up to 6-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Frost, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season.

Hico will take on Rio Vista at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Frost, they will square off against Meridian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.88 runs per game on average), something the Polar Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of.
