Kaneal Sweetwyne was his usual excellent self, throwing for 403 yards and four TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 160 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in September. Skyridge's leading receiver Talmage Oswald was Sweetwyne's top target yet again, picking up 204 receiving yards and three scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Skyridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Briggs Parker, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Lone Peak faced Davis in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Knights skirted past the Darts 41-38. 41 seems to be a good number for the Knights as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Lone Peak had a senior duo take command as Tate Barney rushed for 162 yards and a pair of TDs and Kepa Niumeitolu rushed for 77 yards and one touchdown. Those 162 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Barney.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Lone Peak's defensive line and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kingston Stroshine, Tagg Zundel, and Tate King, who each picked up one sack apiece. Lone Peak got some further help from Stroshine: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Skyridge's record now sits at 9-2. As for Lone Peak, their record is now 7-4.
Skyridge came out on top in a nail-biter against Lone Peak when the teams last played back in October, sneaking past 37-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
