West Mesa has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Eldorado Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
West Mesa put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 57-0 victory over Rio Grande on the road. The win was just what West Mesa needed coming off of a 54-26 defeat in their prior contest.
Elijah Brody was his usual excellent self, rushing for 180 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 75 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Brody really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run. Tavon Archibald made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Eldorado faced Farmington in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Eldorado secured a 44-40 W over Farmington on Saturday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Eldorado as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Brandon Olivas got back to being his usual excellent self, as he threw for 336 yards and five touchdowns. Jahari Morehead was another key contributor, picking up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
West Mesa's win pushed their record up to 5-4, while Eldorado's bumped their own up to the opposite: 4-5.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. West Mesa has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 411.7 total yards per game. However, it's not like Eldorado struggles in that department as they've been averaging 389.1 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
West Mesa took their victory against Eldorado in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 34-8. Will West Mesa repeat their success, or does Eldorado have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
