The Rio Mesa Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their tenth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Oxnard, falling 88-28. While losing is never fun, Rio Mesa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 699th, while Oxnard is ranked 58th).
Mikayla Oliver continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Oxnard, scoring 22 points along with seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Lumas, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Rio Mesa has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-20 record this season. As for Oxnard, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-5.
Rio Mesa will be playing at home against Pacifica at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pacifica is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for Oxnard, they will head out on the road to square off against Dos Pueblos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dos Pueblos is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
