Baseball Recap: Heritage Has No Trouble Against Grovetown

Heritage made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Grovetown, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Patriots put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 7-1 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Patriots have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mason Lynch was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Heritage is 6-2 when Lynch allows one or fewer earned runs, but 6-9 otherwise. Lynch was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Heritage let Charles Walker and Thomas Waites run wild. Walker scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Waites scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Walker is becoming a predictor of Heritage's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tyler Hutton, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Heritage's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-11. As for Grovetown, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-14.

Heritage will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Warriors: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday.
