Basketball Recap: Hanford West's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Hanford West had to endure a four-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Mission Oak Hawks by a score of 52-41 on Thursday. The Huskies' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hanford West to victory, but perhaps none more so than Skyelar Smith, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. Smith is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Laniece Brinston, who posted 18 points along with five boards and four steals.

Mission Oak's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaecyn Henderson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Henderson is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Braelyn Serpa was another key player, putting up 12 points and five steals.

Hanford West's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Mission Oak, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Lindsay the next time they take the court. Hanford West will host Lindsay at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Mission Oak will host them at 6:30 p.m. on December 13th.
