The Northfield Nighthawks will challenge the Fairview Knights at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Northfield has four straight victories, Fairview has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Northfield hadn't beaten George Washington on the road since August 24, 2020 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Nighthawks were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Patriots. The result was nothing new for the Nighthawks, who have now won 14 games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Northfield got a massive performance out of Ricki Ramirez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrina Srichabok, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Northfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Fairview's offense. They lost 14-0 to Holy Family on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Knights' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Northfield's win bumped their record up to 15-5. As for Fairview, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.
Fairview's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northfield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Fairview, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Northfield's sizable advantage in that area, the Knights will need to find a way to close that gap.
Northfield might still be hurting after the 17-6 defeat they got from Fairview in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Will the Nighthawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
