The La Jolla Country Day Torreys were the 73-47 winner over the Mission Hills Grizzlies when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. La Jolla Country Day received a tough blow on Wednesday as they fell 62-47 to Mission Hills. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points La Jolla Country Day has scored all season.
La Jolla Country Day lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Naomi Panganiban, who scored 18 points. Panganiban scored a full 38.3% of La Jolla Country Day's points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Safiyah Sugapong was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Kyara Walter continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mission Hills, scoring 25 points along with eight rebounds. The game was Walter's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maria Gorbushin, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
La Jolla Country Day's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Mission Hills, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season.
La Jolla Country Day and Hamilton will face off at 8:30 a.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mission Hills won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Centennial at 1:30 p.m. on December 21st. Centennial presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mission Hills in their respective states (Centennial is ranked fifth in Nevada, while Mission Hills is ranked 80th in California).
