Wilkes Central fell to Surry Central 53-47. Wilkes Central has struggled against Surry Central recently, as their game on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Wilkes Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tyson Owens. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Owens is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Hunter Wyles was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wilkes Central were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Surry Central only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Ayden Wilmoth, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds for Surry Central. The contest was Wilmoth's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Jewell, who scored nine points along with three blocks.
Wilkes Central's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-4. As for Surry Central, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
Wilkes Central will be playing in front of their home fans against East Surry at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Surry is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Surry Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Mount Airy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
