Baseball Game Preview: Segerstrom Jaguars vs. Costa Mesa Mustangs

Segerstrom is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Costa Mesa is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Segerstrom will welcome Costa Mesa at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Segerstrom had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Los Amigos on Saturday. Segerstrom put the hurt on Los Amigos with a sharp 7-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Lobos: they've now won four in a row.

Segerstrom got a great performance from Sebastian Mejia as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Elijah Sandoval was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Enriquez, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Costa Mesa). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Buena Park a 15-0 shutout on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Costa Mesa is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. Segerstrom's victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Segerstrom came out on top in a nail-biter against Costa Mesa when the teams last played on March 10th, sneaking past 3-1. Will Segerstrom repeat their success, or does Costa Mesa has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
