The Hammond Central Wolves will head out on the road to take on the Morgan Township Cherokees at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hammond Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Hammond Central made easy work of 21st Century Charter and carried off a 16-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolves.
Triston Moore looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits.
At the plate, Elijah Lewis was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Adrian Tiscareno, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Hammond Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as 21st Century Charter struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Morgan Township hadn't done well against Boone Grove recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cherokees sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over the Wolves. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cherokees have posted since April 17th.
Clayton Atchison made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Atchison was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Morgan Township: the team is 9-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Clint Lemmons, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Carter Thibodeau was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.
Morgan Township's record now sits at 14-9. As for Hammond Central, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hammond Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Morgan Township struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
