Belen Eagles (Belen, NM) supporters exited the stadium thrilled Saturday as they saw their basketball team get by the visiting Gallup Bengals (Gallup, NM), 53-47 in a non-league battle.
The Eagles now possess a 13-5 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Valencia for a 5A District 5 battle on Tuesday, January 17. Belen will confront a Jaguars team coming off a 59-30 non-league loss to Alamogordo (Alamogordo, NM). The Jaguars record now stands at 3-14.
The Bengals (6-9) will now prepare for their battle against Los Lunas (Los Lunas, NM). The Tigers come into the non-league battle with a 13-3 record. In their last battle, Los Lunas edged Aztec (Aztec, NM), 61-42, in a non-league battle.
