The crowd at Wednesday's league challenge between the Tohatchi Cougars (Tohatchi, NM) and the host Thoreau Hawks (Thoreau, NM), observed Tohatchi's basketball team knock off Thoreau by a score of 71-54.

The Cougars (21-2) will now prepare for their challenge against Newcomb (Newcomb, NM). The Skyhawks come into the 3A District 1 challenge with a 6-16 record. In their last challenge, Newcomb was knocked off by Wingate (Fort Wingate, NM), 56-50, in a league challenge.

In their next game, the Hawks encounter the Zuni Thunderbirds (Zuni, NM) in a 3A District 1 challenge, on Saturday, February 15. Thoreau will attempt to improve on its 11-11 season record. The Thunderbirds come into the challenge with a 11-11 record after their 77-42 league loss to Navajo Prep (Farmington, NM).
