Baldwin Bruins (Baldwin, NY) backers exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Lynbrook Owls (Lynbrook, NY), 17-11 in a non-league challenge.

The Bruins now own a 1-0 record. They take the field next when they host Carle Place for a non-league challenge on Saturday, March 19.

With the loss, Lynbrook falls to 0-1 on the campaign. The Owls host Valley Stream South (Valley Stream, NY) to battle the Falcons in a non-league challenge on Monday, March 28. The Falcons enter the challenge with a record of 0-0.

Lynbrook jumped out to an early lead against Baldwin with a score of 9-1 entering the fifith inning. The Bruins bats came alive as 14 batters in a row reached base safely. The inning started off with back to back doubles from montia moon and Katelyn Borello. Alex Burns and Juliet Bernstein drew walks, while Yaya Spencer, Taylor Krucher, Nicole Danyi, Caitlin Karl, and Breanna Salvatore all singled in the inning. Taylor Krucher and Nicole Danyi would put exclamation points on the inning with doubles their second time up. Freshman Pitcher Katelyn Borello earned her first Varsity win, pitching 7 complete innings. The defensive outfield of Taylor Krucher, Alex Burns and Montia Moon accounted for 10 of the 21 outs.
