Shelbey Manthorpe has been named player of the year. "Shelbey currently leads the state in assists with a 10.4 average. She is 2nd on her undefeated Merion Mercy Academy team in kills, and has missed only three serves during the entire season, leaving her with an unprecendented point ratio. She has been a reliable workhorse for the team, missig no practice sessions or games. She is the team co-captain, and is poised to lead her team into the post season hoping for a fourth consecutive PIAA AA State Championship. Shelbey has led the team by putting up over 800 assists in a 30-0 season, inclusive of two tournament championships. Shelbey has captured player of the week honors for the Main Line area and is nominated by local newswriters for player of the year honors. In over 25 years of coaching, I have never had a player with Shelbey's superior volleyball IQ, she reads both sides of the court perfectly and sets an exceptioally high quality game everytime she steps onto the court."
