Stat keeping for basketball teams
Joel Thomsen has been named player of the year. "Although Joel Thomsen was also named Overall Player of the Year, no other player came close to him on the offensive side of the ball. He was an obvious weapon of choice for rushing, receiving, and making plays. Winners want the ball ... coaches want to give winners a chance ... and Joel used his talents to complement the vision of the offensive playbook. Most noted was Joel's positive spirit toward the game and his fellow teammates. He was a leader, yet he was not a typical "high school" athlete with a cocky attitude. He focused his efforts on improving himself while also trying to improve the team; he was coachable and also coached younger players. Even though many high school football players would never want to be called "nice" ... Joel truly was a unique player - highly talented and very professional."
Joel Thomsen has been named player of the year. "It is without argument that Joel Thomsen was the Player of the Year for the Custer Wildcats in 2014. He was a vital part of every aspect of the game. On offense, he rushed 114 times for 923 yards, averaging just over 8 yards per carry. He caught the ball 13 times for a total of 173 yards ... giving him over 1000 yards on offense. On defense, he racked up 60 total tackles and included two interceptions for 118 yards. He led the team with 9 pass defends, and he also caused two fumbles. For special teams, he ran back punts for 304 yards on 10 attempts, with 6 kickoff returns for 192 yards ... leading the team in both categories. Although he only punted 13 times all season, he added 507 yards to this stat, with an average of 39 yards per punt. Most impressive was his scoring, with 21 of the team's 37 TDs. The TDs included 14 on rushes, 2 on receptions, and 5 on special teams. It is safe to suggest that Joel ended his high school football career with some of the best stats for Custer."
