Sweeny Bulldogs (Sweeny, TX) backers exited the stadium thrilled Tuesday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Danbury Panthers (Danbury, TX), 6-3 in a non-league challenge.

The Bulldogs now own a 3-0 record. They take the field next when they travel to Fort Bend Christian Academy for a non-league challenge on Thursday, February 23. Sweeny will battle a Eagles squad coming off a 14-4 league win over Lutheran South (Houston, TX). The Eagles record now stands at 3-0.

With the loss, Danbury falls to 1-1 on the campaign. The Panthers travel to Brazoswood (Clute, TX) to battle the Buccaneers in a non-league challenge on Thursday, February 23. The Buccaneers enter the challenge with a record of 2-0. Brazoswood won 3-0 in their recent non-league match against Dobie (Houston, TX)

Lady Bulldogs extended their record to 3-0 with a big win over Danbury last evening. Shelby Miller recorded her 3rd victory and Lauren Dannelley came in to seal the deal with her first save of the season. After holding the Danbury in the first, Sweeny started the scoring off with a leadoff single from Kymbrey Bass. A sac bunt by Danielle Ashley quickly moved her all the way to 3rd. Miller brought her home with an RBI bunt that allowed her to also reach 1st base. 2 batters later, Terra Varnado brought home Miller with her 1st of 2 hits on the evening.

Sweeny added 2 more runs in the second off a leadoff double by Urshel Tims. Emerald Simson would add a hit to reach base allowing Miller to drive both home with a 2 RBI single. Danbury would add 3 runs in their half of the 4th off 2 hits and 3 errors by Sweeny.

Sweeny came back in the 5th to add some cusion to their lead with a leadoff single by Johanna Folse followed by RBI singles by Simpson and Bass to round out the scoring.
