Scouting report: Anderson, Carmon and Moore have been the backbone of Jackrabbit teams that have won 51 games over the past two seasons and won 15 in a row during January and February last year. That trio will be counted on to provide leadership on a team being pegged as potentially California's best.
"I think they will handle it quite well," eighth-year head coach Metoyer said. "This has been a process. We were fortunate enough to win a championship my first year and then we took a dip and have been building ever since.
"Three years ago we got a group of kids that was very committed in Alexis, Ryan and Alex and their focus has been getting to the top."
Prince is one of the nation's top sophomores. After averaging 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game as a freshman, much more will be expected this season.
"He might be quite possibly our best player as a sophomore," Metoyer said. "He does it all."
Long Beach Poly will be staying close to home for much of the season, but that doesn't mean the schedule is forgiving. The Jackrabbits are taking part in the National Prep Classic in Santa Maria as well as the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic. Showcase games against Bishop Gorman are scheduled for the Nike Extravaganza in February and an opponent will be named later for the Pangos Dream Classic in Las Vegas in early January.
