Maria Dela cruz has been named player of the year. "In a championship season, many players could be given the honor of player of the year. Several players had standout games that got the Grizzlies to where they ended up, Section Champions. However, one player kept the team in games and literally saved the season for the Granite Bay Grizzlies and that was their goal keeper, Maria Dela Cruz. True to form, Maria's outstanding play continued and seemed to even improve during the playoffs, when her team needed her the most. Against a great McClatchy team she had several big saves including a cross that was easily going toward an opposing player's head for a goal. In the semi-final game against Bella Vista, Maria had two amazing saves during regulation and one incredible save during a shootout at the end of extra-time that sent the Grizzlies to the Section Finals. And, in the finals, Maria saved her best for last. She had several key saves, two that came off her hands and hit the crossbar, and one huge save from a shot that knuckled before it came to her. She pushed it away only to have it go toward the side of the goal. She made one last effort and, fully extended, flipped it away and out of trouble. This season was possible because of Maria's outstanding play."
