Matthew Lype has been named player of the year. "Matt Lype was the heart and soul of the Lions football team in 2012. As team captain he rushed for over 1,400 yards(setting a single season record) while scoring 17 TD's. He also proved to be a viable force on defense collecting 56 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. His ability to play at a high level on both sides of the ball, allowed the Lions to acheive the ultimate goal of winning the school's first State Championship! He was named the MVP of the State Championship football game. He also was named to the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia Alabama ( ICSGA) All-Star team. Matt also received the LCA Most Valuable Award for his offense production this season. Lype's final post-season accolade was being named to the Walton Tribune's All-County team. This local newspaper recognizes local student-athletes for their performance on the football field. "
