In Wednesday's non-league outing, the Ashley Screaming Eagle (Wilmington, NC) basketball squad edged the host Croatan Cougars (Newport, NC), by a count of 47-42.

The Screaming Eagle (3-8) will now prepare for their outing against New Hanover (Wilmington, NC). The Wildcats go into the 3A/4A Mideastern outing with a 9-0 record. In their last outing, New Hanover held off Holly Springs (Holly Springs, NC), 53-42, in a non-league outing.

The Cougars now hold a 12-1 record. They put it on the line next when they host Havelock for a non-league game on Friday, January 5. Croatan will face a Rams team coming off a 56-45 non-league win over West Carteret (Morehead City, NC). The Rams record now stands at 3-7.
