Fans at Wednesday's non-league challenge between the Monroe Redhawks (Monroe, NC) and the visiting Sun Valley Spartans (Monroe, NC), saw Monroe's basketball squad hold off Sun Valley by a tally of 43-41.

With the victory, Monroe improves its record to 2-1 on the campaign. The Redhawks host West Stanly (Oakboro, NC) to confront the Colts in a 2A/3A Rocky River challenge on Tuesday, January 9. The Colts come into the challenge with a record of 7-6. West Stanly lost 73-67 in their recent league challenge against Parkwood (Monroe, NC)

Next up, the Spartans confront the Cuthbertson Cavaliers (Waxhaw, NC) in a 4A Southern Carolina challenge, on Friday, January 5. Sun Valley will attempt to improve on its 4-9 season record. The Cavaliers come into the challenge with a 3-9 record after their 41-34 non-league loss to SouthLake Christian Academy (Huntersville, NC).
