Shelby Golden Lions (Shelby, NC) backers were in high spirits Tuesday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting East Gaston Warriors (Mt. Holly, NC), 71-59 in a league bout.

With the win, Shelby upgrades its record to 8-5 on the season. The Golden Lions travel to Ashbrook (Gastonia, NC) to play the Greenwave in a non-league bout on Wednesday, January 17. The Greenwave enter the game with a record of 12-2. Ashbrook won 80-57 in their recent league game against North Gaston (Dallas, NC)

With the defeat, East Gaston moves to 10-6 on the year. The Warriors travel to Burns (Lawndale, NC) to face the Bulldogs in a 1A/2A Southern Piedmont game on Friday, January 19. The Bulldogs enter the game with a record of 7-8. Burns won 72-57 in their recent league game against Thomas Jefferson (Mooresboro, NC)
