Nevada High School Basketball - Amplus Academy ripped by Cheyenne
February 2, 2024: North Las Vegas, NV 89032 The Cheyenne Desert Shields basketball team scored 54 points and held the visiting Amplus Academy Archers to 7 in the Desert Shields league triumph on Friday.
The Desert Shields now sport a 8-11 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Southeast Career Tech for a 4A Sky contest on Monday, February 5. Cheyenne will meet a Roadrunners team coming off a 58-23 league loss to Legacy (North Las Vegas, NV). The Roadrunners record now stands at 10-15.
The Archers (0-15) will now prepare for their contest against Eldorado (Las Vegas, NV). The Sundevils enter the 4A Sky contest with a 2-15 record. In their last contest, Eldorado was routed by Bonanza (Las Vegas, NV), 38-35, in a league contest.
First Quarter
Q1 - Amplus:
Amplus continued their trend for most of the season by starting slow, turning the ball over, giving up multiple shots and getting behind early.
Offense: Lady Archers only took 2 shots, missing both, but Gabriela did earn 2 free throws, making one. But Amplus gave up the ball in the backcourt with bad passes, poor ballhandling resulting in 24 turnovers.
Defense: Amplus did not show much energy or effort on defense, allowing Cheyenne to shoot 33 shots in the 8-minute quarter, making 8 baskets. Amplus also fouled Cheyenne repeatedly giving them 10 free throws, but they made only one.
Rebounding: Amplus did not box out well, being outrebounded 11-18 by Cheyenne.

Second Quarter
Q2 - Amplus:
Amplus continued their same effort, turning the ball over, giving up multiple shots and getting behind even further.
Offense: Lady Archers did improve on offense, earning 9 shots with Vanesa making both off assists by Naomi and Mio.
Mio also earned 2 free throws, making one. But Amplus gave up the ball in the backcourt with bad passes, poor ballhandling resulting in 14 more turnovers., for a total of 38 turnovers in the first 16 minutes before halftime.
Defense: Amplus did not show much energy or effort on defense at all, allowing Cheyenne to shoot 42 shots in the 8-minute quarter, making 9 baskets. Amplus fouled Cheyenne fewer times but enough to give them 5 more free throws, making 2.
Rebounding: Amplus did not box out well, being outrebounded 9-26 by Cheyenne.

Third Quarter
Q3 - Amplus:
Amplus came out of the locker room and continued their slow start.
Offense: Lady Archers earned 4 shots and 2 more free throws, but made none. Amplus protected the ball much better, or Cheyenne backed off on defensive pressure with the game well in hand. Either way, Amplus only committed 3 turnovers.
Defense: Amplus showed more effort on defense, holding Cheyenne to 10 shots, making only 2 baskets. Amplus fouled Cheyenne to give them 6 more free throws, making 2.
Rebounding: Amplus boxed out better, and tied for rebounds this quarter 6-6 by Cheyenne.

Fourth Quarter
Q4 - Amplus:
With the game already decided, the majority of the 4th quarter was played by both benches.
Offense: Lady Archers earned only 1 shot and 3 free throws, with Hailey making one after being fouled on a missed 3-point attempt. Amplus protected the ball much better, committing only 5 turnovers.
Defense: Amplus showed good effort on defense, holding Cheyenne to 11 shots, making only 2 baskets. Cheyenne also shot 2 more free throws, making both.
Rebounding: Amplus boxed out better, so rebounds were nearly even for this quarter 5-6 favored by Cheyenne.
