Checking in as we are back at Bender Arena, on the campus of American University, for the WCAC tournament final.
#1 seed Paul VI Panthers are taking on #2 seed Gonzaga Eagles. Oddly, Washington Post has Gonzaga as #1 in the DMV, PVI #2
But Kobe of that seeding matters tonight as these 2 national heavyweights fight it out for supremacy in the WCAC and DMV.
Both teams are loaded with talent. Gonzaga, like last year’s PVI team, is built around seniors. Their starting 5 are all seniors.
Gonzaga is looking for revenge from last year’s loss to the Panthers. Panthers are looking to make it 2 in a row, 3 of last 4.
Gonzaga college commits - Derek Dixon-UNC. Nyk Lewis-Xavier. Christian Gurdak-Va Tech. Will Harper-Richmond. Alex Touomou-Harvard.

10 more minutes of warmups.
Over the last 10 seasons, PVI is 16-7 vs. Gonzaga. 13 of those games were decided by 10 or fewer points. Four games by 3 or less
Gonzaga’s last WCAC title was the 2018/19 season. They beat PVI in the semis and St. John’s in the final.
This is PVI’s 5th straight final appearance (no WCAC tourney in 20/21). Panthers are 2-2 in that stretch.
