Game Summary
Watauga played Hickory away for Hickory's first game of the season and home opener. Watauga entered the game in a difficult position with nine players out either sick or injured including starters at midfield, defense and goalie. Hickory came out hustling and exhibited good ball control, movement and shooting of offense to score 13 in the first half against a brand new Watauga goalie playing his first game. Watauga's defense hustled but struggled to contain ranged shots from two Hickory midfielders and crease dunks by Hickory's X man who ended up open off single and double slides forced by Hickory's midfielders winning one on one match ups. Watauga's first half goal was scored by Kade Maiden on an incredible drive through the entire Hickory defense, beating four men for a close shot that found the net. Watauga switched to a zone D in the second half and shuffled certain player positions, holding Hickory to four goals, with only one in Q4.
