With the win, Lake Balboa College Prep advances its record to 3-2 on the season. The Cougars host Alliance Marine-Innovation & Technology (Sun Valley, CA) to face the Griffins in a Central Valley test on Monday, September 8. The Griffins go into the test with a record of 0-2. The teams traded blows at 6 all in set 1. The Bert Corona Knights came to fight. They battled Lake Balboa to 7-8, down by only 1 until Athena Orujyan's tough serving opened it up 13-7 for the Cougars. 12-8 sideout ball won it going away for Laketown. Down but not out, the Knights opened up set 2 with a 7-2 lead over the Cougs. Lina Matevosyan went back to serve & made the most of it helping her team to the lead at 8-7. BC struck back 9-7. LBCP cut it down to 1 trailing 10-9. This was when the choir began to sing in Latin & the plants began to bloom. Maneh Parsadanyan was armed & dangerous at the service line. The Lake show responded with a hail of aces & spikes. When the dust settled it was 19-10 for the teal & black. The momentum continued with Lake Balboa taking 6 of the next 7 points. The Knights battled valiantly in set 3, down 4-3 & gave ground grudgingly to 5-8 before Parsa-ace-yan did it again reeling off 9 points making it 15-5! The Cougars blasted away 10-3 to win the match.
