Texas High School Basketball - Taft can't hold off Mathis

The Mathis Pirates basketball team scored 54 points and restricted the host Taft Greyhounds to 51 in the Pirates league victory on Tuesday.

The Pirates now sport a 13-12 record. They put it on the line next when they host Goliad for a 3A Region IV District 29 contest on Friday, January 26. Mathis will battle a Tigers team coming off a 76-34 league win over George West (George West, TX). The Tigers record now stands at 23-4.

The Greyhounds (18-11) will now prepare for their contest against Odem (Odem, TX). The Owls come into the 3A Region IV District 29 contest with a 11-15 record. In their last contest, Odem was nudged by Aransas Pass (Aransas Pass, TX), 85-40, in a league contest.
