Fans at Friday's non-league challenge between the Phillipsburg Panthers (Phillipsburg, KS) and the host Russell Broncos (Russell, KS), saw Phillipsburg's basketball squad hold off Russell by a count of 53-47.

With the victory, Phillipsburg upgrades its record to 5-3 on the campaign. The Panthers host Trego (WaKeeney, KS) to play the Golden Eagles in a non-league challenge on Tuesday, January 10. The Golden Eagles come into the challenge with a record of 5-2. Trego lost 60-41 in their recent non-league challenge against Hill City (Hill City, KS)

Next up, the Broncos play the Smith Center Redmen (Smith Center, KS) in a Mid-Continent challenge, on Tuesday, January 10. Russell will attempt to upgrade on its 4-4 season record. The Redmen come into the challenge with a 1-6 record after their 58-30 league loss to Ellis (Ellis, KS).
