Pennsylvania High School Soccer - Delone Catholic held off by Biglerville
October 12, 2023: McSherrystown, PA 17344 The crowd at Thursday's league test between the Biglerville Canners (Biglerville, PA) and the host Delone Catholic Squires (McSherrystown, PA), saw Biglerville's soccer squad get by Delone Catholic by a margin of 3-2.
The Canners now sport a 11-7 record.
With the loss, Delone Catholic drops to 9-7 on the season.
Game Summary
Squires we’re down 2 at half despite possessing more throughout. We broke down defensively that allowed the Canners to get ahead. In the 2nd half, Nico Scarmadella #40 made his first start on varsity as a freshman at outside mid helping create some new energy, as well as Will Holtz #5 also a freshman who came back into the game after Dacosta Wivell #19 went down with a shoulder injury late in the 1st half. The Squires scored 13 minutes into the half with Holtz megging the defender with an assist to Nolan Kruse #9 on the first goal of the game. A few minutes later, Angello Salazar #7 was fouled in the box which set up a PK for the Squires. Michael Carter #10 put another PK in for the second game in a row tying the game 2-2. With 18 mins left to play the Canners scored again taking the lead 3-2 and despite some close shots on goal, we couldn’t get it done.
