Pennsylvania High School Soccer - Fairfield held off by Delone Catholic
September 5, 2023: McSherrystown, PA 17344 The crowd at Tuesday's league test between the Delone Catholic Squires (McSherrystown, PA) and the visiting Fairfield Knights (Fairfield, PA), saw Delone Catholic's soccer squad get by Fairfield by a count of 4-3.
The Squires now hold a 3-0 record. They play next when they travel to Bermudian Springs for a York-Adams 4 test on Thursday, September 7. Delone Catholic will meet a Eagles squad coming off a 3-0 league loss to York Catholic (York, PA). The Eagles record now stands at 1-2.
With the loss, Fairfield drops to 0-1 on the season. The Knights host Littlestown (Littlestown, PA) to meet the Thunderbolts in a York-Adams 4 test on Thursday, September 7. Game Summary
This was a fantastic game for the fans. The Squires got down 1 in the first half and came back to tie it up with a goal off a corner kick by JP Groves #4 to Angello Salazar #7 only to get down 2 more before the half making it 1-3. In the second half, the Squires came alive making adjustments and scored two to tie it 3-3 with goals by Groves on the back post with a cross by Salazar and then minutes later a throw-in by Groves with a header by Ethan Sevison #39. With two minutes remaining, Sevison passed the ball with the outside of his foot over to Nolan Kruse #9 who popped it in for the game-winning goal making the final 4-3.
