In Saturday's non-league contest, the host Leake Central Gators basketball team scored a close 56-49 triumph over the Leake County Gators.

The Gators (13-4) will now prepare for their contest against Newton County (Decatur, MS). The Cougars enter the 4A Region 4 match with a 7-2 record.

The Gators now sport a 7-6 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Mississippi School for the Deaf for a 1A Region 7 match on Tuesday, January 7.
