In Friday's non-league contest, the visiting Valmeyer Pirates basketball team scored a close 66-63 triumph over the Southwestern Piasa Birds.

The Pirates (2-2) will now prepare for their battle against New Athens (New Athens, IL). The Yellow Jackets enter the Cahokia - Kaskaskia battle with a 8-4 record. In their last battle, New Athens tipped Red Bud (Red Bud, IL), 60-58, in a non-league battle.

The Piasa Birds now own a 8-8 record. They put it on the line next when they host SIUE East St. Louis Charter for a non-league battle on Saturday, December 28. Southwestern will meet a Cougars squad coming off a 68-58 non-league loss to North County Christian (Ferguson, MO). The Cougars record now stands at 2-5.
