Draughn Wildcats (Valdese, NC) backers were pleased Wednesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Ashe County Huskies (West Jefferson, NC), 71-66 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Draughn upgrades its record to 7-5 on the campaign. The Wildcats travel to Surry Central (Dobson, NC) to play the Golden Eagles in a non-league bout on Thursday, December 30. The Golden Eagles come into the bout with a record of 7-4. Surry Central won 82-79 in their recent non-league bout against North Davidson (Lexington, NC)

Next up, the Huskies play the Mitchell Mountaineers (Bakersville, NC) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, January 4. Ashe County will attempt to upgrade on its 6-5 season record. The Mountaineers come into the bout with a 3-3 record after their 59-40 non-league loss to East Henderson (East Flat Rock, NC).
