Newton-Conover Red Devils (Newton, NC) supporters left the game satisfied Monday as they witnessed their basketball squad nudge the host Alexander Central Cougars (Taylorsville, NC), 52-48 in a non-league match.

With the victory, Newton-Conover advances its record to 9-1 on the year. The Red Devils travel to East Burke (Connelly Springs, NC) to face the Cavaliers in a 2A Catawba Valley match on Tuesday, January 7. The Cavaliers enter the match with a record of 11-1. East Burke lost 56-52 in their recent non-league challenge against McDowell (Marion, NC)

In their next game, the Cougars encounter the North Wilkes Vikings (Hays, NC) in a non-league challenge, on Friday, January 3. Alexander Central will attempt to improve on its 9-3 season record. The Vikings come into the challenge with a 11-1 record after their 65-36 league win over Surry Central (Dobson, NC).
