Akron-Westfield Westerners (Akron, IA) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Gehlen Catholic Jays (Le Mars, IA), 45-40 in a league bout.

With the victory, Akron-Westfield upgrades its record to 1-2 on the campaign. The Westerners host Unity Christian (Orange City, IA) to play the Knights in a War Eagle bout on Friday, December 9. The Knights come into the bout with a record of 3-1. Unity Christian won 52-31 in their recent league bout against West Sioux (Hawarden, IA)

Next up, the Jays play the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Hawks (Hartley, IA) in a non-league bout, on Friday, December 16. Gehlen Catholic will attempt to upgrade on its 1-5 season record.
