The crowd at Friday's league challenge between the Fort Chiswell Pioneers (Max Meadows, VA) and the visiting Giles Spartans (Pearisburg, VA), observed Fort Chiswell's basketball team overcome Giles by a margin of 69-55.

The Pioneers (15-6) will now prepare for their challenge against George Wythe (Wytheville, VA). The Maroons come into the Mountain Empire challenge with a 17-4 record. In their last challenge, George Wythe defeated Auburn (Riner, VA), 66-63, in a league challenge.

In their next game, the Spartans battle the Grayson County Blue Devils (Independence, VA) in a Mountain Empire challenge, on Monday, February 10. Giles will attempt to better on its 3-15 season record. The Blue Devils come into the challenge with a 4-13 record after their 68-66 league loss to Bland County (Rocky Gap, VA).
