In Thursday's league bout, the Madison Patriots (Marshall, NC) volleyball team held off the host Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC), by a margin of 3-2.

The Patriots now possess a 4-3 record. They play next when they travel to Mountain Heritage for a Western Highlands 2A/3A bout on Tuesday, September 2.

With the loss, Avery County drops to 4-2 on the campaign. The Vikings travel to Owen (Black Mountain, NC) to clash with the Warhorses in a Western Highlands 2A/3A bout on Tuesday, September 2. The Warhorses come into the bout with a record of 6-0. Owen won 3-1 in their recent league contest against Polk County (Columbus, NC)
