September 13, 2022: Natrona Heights, PA 15065 In Tuesday's league battle, the host Highlands Golden Rams soccer squad scored a close 2-1 win over the Armstrong River Hawks.
The Golden Rams (1-3) will now prepare for their battle against Penn Hills (Pittsburgh, PA). The Indians go into the non-league battle with a 5-3 record. In their last battle, Penn Hills nipped Obama Academy of International Studies (Pittsburgh, PA), 6-1, in a league battle.
The River Hawks (0-6) will now prepare for their battle against Hampton (Allison Park, PA). The Talbots go into the WPIAL AAA 1 battle with a 7-2 record. In their last battle, Hampton nipped Slippery Rock (Slippery Rock, PA), 1-0, in a non-league battle.
Match Summary
Our young men lost a heartbreaker last night to archrival Highlands 2-1. Caden Smail was a stud in goal and the defense, led by Nolan Heilman, Chayton Cribbs (who played valiantly through an illness), Dante Magagnotti, Miles Stockdill, Alex Boback (who had his best boots of the year), and Landyn Johnson (who was an animal all night) harassed and hurried a tough, hardnosed Golden Rams team. The Formaini twins and Aidan McCay were pinballs all over the field, creating numerous scoring opportunities with head's-up play. Scoring by the Hawks came on a nice goal set up by a LONGGGGG Alex Boback pass to the right corner, tipped back by Hunter Reed, put home by Jordan Callipare (G, with assists by Boback and Reed).
The game was physical all night as both teams wanted this victory badly. Some chippiness by both sides led to a total of 6 cards being issued between the two teams. Our Hawks continued to put the pressure on Highlands throughout the second half, but we came up short, putting
