Illinois High School Volleyball - Wilmington can't hold off Coal City
September 29, 2022: Coal City, IL 60416 In Thursday's league battle, the host Coal City Coalers volleyball team scored a tight 2-1 triumph over the Wilmington Wildcats.
The Coalers (17-7) will now prepare for their battle against Manteno (Manteno, IL). The Panthers come into the Illinois Central Eight battle with a 11-8 record. In their last battle, Manteno was edged by Bradley-Bourbonnais (Bradley, IL), 2-0, in a non-league battle.
Next, the Wildcats clash with the Seneca Fighting Irish (Seneca, IL) in a non-league battle, on Monday, October 3. Wilmington will attempt to advance on its 10-11 season record. The Fighting Irish enter the test with a 12-5 record after their 2-0 league win over Putnam County (Granville, IL).
Match Summary
The Lady Cats faced the Lady Coalers for the third time this season and came up short once again losing 25-21, 25-27, 16-25. Defense was key to win the first and to keep the second close. Libero Lexi Liaramatis had a whopping 25 digs! Bella Reyes added another 14 digs to go along with her 8 kills, 2 blocks and 2 aces. Setter Grace Burkey had a great game too with 12 assists, 12 digs, and an ace. JV won a close game 26-24, 25-17.
