California High School Volleyball - Lake Balboa College Prep bounced by Valor Academy
September 4, 2024: Lake Balboa, CA 91406 Valor Academy (Van Nuys, CA) boosters left the game thrilled Wednesday as they saw their volleyball squad achieve victory over the host Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars (Lake Balboa, CA), 3-0 in a league test.
With the win, Valor Academy improves its record to 3-3 on the season. The travel to Larchmont Charter (West Hollywood, CA) to encounter the Timberwolves in a non-league test on Monday, September 9. The Timberwolves go into the test with a record of 3-0. Larchmont Charter won 3-1 in their recent non-league test against University Prep Value (Los Angeles, CA)
The Cougars now own a 0-4 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Sun Valley Magnet for a Central Valley test on Monday, September 9.
Match Summary
Lake Balboa College Prep fell in 3 to the Valor Academy Lions in the Cougadome at Mulholland MS. Valor served tough racking up 17 aces while the Cougars gave away another 17 points in service errors, 5 ball handling errors, & 11 unforced hitting errors, an 11 points per set bonus to Valor. With the reception errors that's an overall 15 point head start in each & every set. It could have been much worse had the refs called Lake Balboa for their confusion in numerous rotation violations. Players need to learn their system like the back of their hand. There were silver linings among those black clouds. The Cougars kept choppin', closing huge deficits in games 2 & 3 to be competitive. Tamara Santiago brought her A game hitting .385 with 6 kills out of 13 tries. Outside hitter Darla Wiltz defended the center of the passing line becoming very hard to beat with only 4 REs out of 23 passes. Darla was also 5/14 offensively with 4 aces & stood tall on defense leading the team with 9 digs.
