Texas High School Volleyball - Turner routed by Creekview
September 12, 2023: Carrollton, TX 75006 The Turner Lions volleyball team (Carrollton, TX), was dropped 3-0 in Tuesday's league challenge with the visiting Creekview Mustangs (Carrollton, TX)
The Mustangs (8-16) will now prepare for their challenge against The Colony (The Colony, TX). The Cougars enter the 5A Region II District 9 challenge with a 9-15 record. In their last challenge, The Colony was dropped by Reedy (Frisco, TX), 3-0, in a league challenge.
Next, the Lions encounter the Frisco Raccoons (Frisco, TX) in a 5A Region II District 9 challenge, on Friday, September 15. Turner will attempt to move on its 10-10 season record. The Raccoons enter the challenge with a 7-13 record after their 3-1 league loss to Lone Star (Frisco, TX).
Match Summary
Tonight's match was a tough loss, but an exciting one! The Lady Lions took a quick lead in the first set, playing as one flawless unit. Their defense was in sync, their serves targeted, and their offense was fluid. Unfortunately, they failed to keep the momentum up and fell 17-25. In the second match, they struggled to get past the first couple of servers and had missed serves themselves. Eventually they found their fight, led by sophomore Grecia De La Garza on defense, but it came just a bit too late to pull it together and they lost the 2nd match 15-25. The same lull started the 3rd set, but their determination shown and they showed Creekview that they weren't going down without a fight. Senior Captain, Dylann Barnwell shined with some deadly back row kills, Grecia continued to shut down their hits targeted to the back row, and Leila Farda made sharp adjustments on the right side to close out their cross court hits.
