George Washington Eagles (Danville, VA) backers were in high spirits Tuesday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Mecklenburg County Phoenix (Baskerville, VA), 68-59 in a non-league bout.

With the win, George Washington upgrades its record to 10-5 on the season. The Eagles travel to Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham, VA) to play the Tigers in a non-league bout on Thursday, January 19. The Tigers go into the bout with a record of 10-3. Hargrave Military Academy won 70-68 in their recent league bout against Miller School of Albemarle (Charlottesville, VA)

Next up, the Phoenix play the Martinsville Bulldogs (Martinsville, VA) in a Piedmont bout, on Friday, January 20. Mecklenburg County will attempt to upgrade on its 5-9 season record. The Bulldogs go into the bout with a 6-8 record after their 70-62 league loss to Magna Vista (Ridgeway, VA).
