Fans at Tuesday's league challenge between the Mathis Pirates (Mathis, TX) and the host Orange Grove Bulldogs (Orange Grove, TX), saw Mathis's basketball squad hold off Orange Grove by a count of 48-46.
With the victory, Mathis upgrades its record to 17-10 on the campaign. The Pirates host Odem (Odem, TX) to play the Owls in a 3A Region IV District 29 challenge on Friday, January 14. The Owls come into the challenge with a record of 7-18. Odem lost 43-30 in their recent league challenge against Skidmore-Tynan (Skidmore, TX)
Next up, the Bulldogs play the Taft Greyhounds (Taft, TX) in a 3A Region IV District 29 challenge, on Friday, January 14. Orange Grove will attempt to upgrade on its 10-13 season record. The Greyhounds come into the challenge with a 11-10 record after their 70-25 league loss to Aransas Pass (Aransas Pass, TX).
