In Thursday's league outing, the Mountain Heritage Cougars (Burnsville, NC) basketball squad edged the host Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC), by a count of 42-39.

The Cougars (5-7) will now prepare for their outing against Mitchell (Bakersville, NC). The Mountaineers go into the non-league outing with a 2-1 record.

The Vikings now hold a 4-5 record. They play next when they host Madison for a outing on Friday, January 12. Avery County will clash with a Patriots squad coming off a 45-35 non-league win over Draughn (Valdese, NC). The Patriots record now stands at 2-7.
