Mountain Heritage Cougars (Burnsville, NC) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC), 36-30 in a league bout.

With the victory, Mountain Heritage upgrades its record to 10-8 on the campaign. The Cougars host Mitchell (Bakersville, NC) to play the Mountaineers in a non-league bout on Tuesday, February 6. The Mountaineers come into the bout with a record of 6-1. Mitchell won 54-29 in their recent league bout against Avery County (Newland, NC)

Next up, the Vikings play the Madison Patriots (Marshall, NC) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, February 6. Avery County will attempt to upgrade on its 7-7 season record. The Patriots come into the bout with a 3-12 record after their 60-43 non-league loss to Draughn (Valdese, NC).
