The Swain County Maroon Devils (Bryson City, NC) basketball nipped the host Highlands Highlanders (Highlands, NC), 25-23 in Friday's non-league test.

The Maroon Devils (5-8) will now prepare for their test against Nantahala (Topton, NC). The Hawks go into the 1A Smoky Mountain test with a 1-10 record. In their last test, Nantahala was tipped by Cherokee (Cherokee, NC), 119-18, in a league test.

The Highlanders now own a 1-13 record. They play next when they host Cherokee for a 1A Smoky Mountain test on Monday, January 15. Highlands will encounter a Braves squad coming off a 119-18 league win over Nantahala (Topton, NC). The Braves record now stands at 12-1.
