Porter Spartans (Porter, TX) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Kingwood Park Panthers (Kingwood, TX), 34-24 in a league bout.

With the win, Porter upgrades its record to 8-16 on the season. The Spartans host Nacogdoches (Nacogdoches, TX) to play the Dragons in a 5A Region II District 16 bout on Tuesday, January 17. The Dragons go into the bout with a record of 15-9. Nacogdoches won 59-35 in their recent league bout against Huntsville (Huntsville, TX)

Next up, the Panthers play the Lufkin Panthers (Lufkin, TX) in a 5A Region II District 16 bout, on Tuesday, January 17. Kingwood Park will attempt to upgrade on its 10-15 season record. The Panthers go into the bout with a 24-3 record after their 59-31 league win over Dayton (Dayton, TX).
