Marshall Mavericks (Marshall, TX) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Pine Tree Pirates (Longview, TX), 49-38 in a league bout.

With the win, Marshall upgrades its record to 12-15 on the season. The Mavericks travel to Mt. Pleasant (Mt. Pleasant, TX) to play the Tigers in a 5A Region II District 15 bout on Tuesday, January 17. The Tigers go into the bout with a record of 24-0. Mt. Pleasant won 52-40 in their recent league bout against Longview (Longview, TX)

Next up, the Pirates play the Whitehouse Wildcats (Whitehouse, TX) in a 5A Region II District 15 bout, on Tuesday, January 17. Pine Tree will attempt to upgrade on its 9-11 season record. The Wildcats go into the bout with a 12-11 record after their 58-46 league loss to Hallsville (Hallsville, TX).
